The Silver Lake Lions Club was chartered on June 20, 1964, by the
Lions International. Rossville's Lions Club sponsored the Silver Lake Club. There were 22 charter members. John W. Dozier, Jr., was the Charter President. The club has had a record of being one of the most active clubs in the district.
In July 1964 plans were made to establish a rural fire district which was later named the Shawnee County Rural Fire District #1. The Silver Lake Lions Club led the way for the next five years to the final completion.
In March 1965, one of the Club's projects included putting street numbers on all of the houses in Silver Lake.
On June 26, 1965, the Silver Lake Lions Club sponsored the chartering of a new club in Auburn, Kansas.
In December 1967, the Lions Club purchased land at the southeast edge of town, gave it to the city, and has continued to maintain it as a community park. A softball diamond and shelter house were constructed and completed. Many families have enjoyed the park over the years. |
